I found my purpose in life, have you? – Aditya BhattacharyaAugust 1, 2017
From all these years when I asked my self who am I? What’s my purpose in life? I used to have no answer!
I was just running aimlessly in this so called societal ‘rat race’.
I was brought up in a family where cultural talents are meant to be kept as a hobby even though my grandfather(Guru Valmiki Banerjee) gave all his life to “Rabindranatyam” a dance form which is still fighting for the rights to be recognized as a top dance form in India. From childhood I was involved in every sort of cultural activities, theatre and music being my favorite. But this artist inside me got lost when I took Science with Biology in my 11th grade and I was pushed by the society to run for a marathon which was never ending.
High school made me frustrated and somewhere down the line it was killing the person who I was underneath. Finally the biggest hurdle of Indian education was here ’12th boards’ along with other medical entrances. I scored a mere 67% in my boards(after days and months of grinding) and I didn’t clear my medical entrance examinations which left me with all sorts of criticisms and suggestions from all around, but nobody asked me what I wanted to become or what makes me really happy. So after endless suggestions and discussions I started my university life at Amity Institute of Biotechnology in Medical Biotechnology.
On my first day of university in my department, I knew I didn’t belong here, I felt left out and different, where my notes used to state ‘Koch’s postulates’ but my mind was at ‘Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice’. By the end of first semester I found my self standing in front of a poster which stated theaTORS – The English Dramatics Society Of AIB(Amity Institute Of Biotechnology) Auditions. Without wasting any time I got enrolled for the auditions and soon I was an Actor at theaTORS. From there somewhere within me I was at peace. I was soon realizing what I want to do with my life.
During the university years I was getting nurtured as an artist. I became a part of AYF(Amity Youth Festival) cultural team where I hosted many events and cultural shows. By the end of second year I even became a RJ at Radio Amity 107.8 FM. By the end of four years I graduated being the cultural head as well as the president of the theatre society. Somewhere this made me happy and satisfied. Finally I gathered all my strength to tell my parents that I don’t want to pursue science anymore. Well today after being a biotechnology graduate I’m preparing myself to make a name in this artistic world.
I still have a lot of struggle and a very long way to go, well everything’s worth it when you enjoy the work you like to do.
