“It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for – and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool – for love – for your dreams – for the adventure of being alive.”
I don’t just believe in quotes like these. I live them literally. Starting out with my narrative, I would try to keep the primary focus for this article on Career aspirations, building a career around your lifestyle(not the other way around) that a millennial in this era should have.
Born to parents who both are Scientists, it was obvious that I have those scientist genes within me. I was so fascinated by Life Sciences that in childhood I used to spend most of my time in farmhouses scavenging for various fauna to study.
Time went by and then it was time for college. I joined Biotechnology in the so called ” Non Profit University”, Amity University, keeping the same passion for life sciences in mind. But Something else was supposed to become my career pursuit.
Roughly during the 2nd year I was sure that I don’t want to continue in Biotech as my career aspirations didn’t seem to match with it now.
The monotony in college studies killed my interest towards it. Nobody talked about getting things done out of the box! Why?
So what did I do? I started developing skills by my own. Gathered approx. 2 years of work experience in college before even passing out by working part time. It was the Boom time for Start-Up culture and I was all about it. I remember my first gig was when I had to sell hundredths of Aquarium fishes that bred to a pet store owner.
Also did many market research for start up ideas, worked on self funded start-up as well.
Now, I am not here to talk just about my work experience, I will tell you what all things I realized which actually work in the real world scenario rather than what we are taught!
- One thing is for obvious, you don’t need to have a degree to have a good career. It’s not like people should just start dropping out of college. What I mean is that 1 piece of paper which you and your parents spent lakhs on to get it, does not have the authority and power to decide what you should do in Life.
- Don’t wait for it to happen. You dream big of going there, achieving this and what not. Well, guess what, DREAMS WON’T WORK UNLESS YOU DO.
- Be true to yourself when it comes to life choices, so that when things go wrong, you don’t have anyone but yourself to blame. Believe me its very good because you will learn from it too.
So, How am I living my life differently from others? What’s the point in all this? Right now speaking, I am very much awesome in what I do.
People come to me when it comes to making important decisions with their businesses. People of my age ask about getting them work. I became a Google certified Digital marketer and started to work on clients from abroad as well as from here.
Besides that, if I talk about my lifestyle now, I start working when I want and finish it when I want. For me everyday is Sunday and sometimes none of it is. I generally find myself on weekend nights working as well. Besides this I also guide and teach professionals in the Digital Marketing stream. I am Living the Life in the Fastlane. I don’t have time for doubts, anxiety and gratification from others.
I am consistently improving and learning new skills. Even from Different backgrounds
Being an avid traveller as well, specially adventure travel, I plan on pursuing this lifestyle, for it’s independence, flexibility. The terminology here would be Digital Nomad. Also in order to bring my own dent in media industry, I launched BulletinXp , which aims on bringing, curiosity based, transparent and life enriching stories that people need to hear about, along with Vacafy which is a platform to showcasing people, their lifestyle and travel experiences.
So, that’s about it. I expressed as much as I could without making the post too lengthy and boring.
Bottomline is If I can do it, You can too! Anybody can, If they really want it.
